How The 3 Week Diet Helped Me Lose 37 Lbs After 2 Rounds..

My worst nightmare had come true. I felt sick to my stomach when I heard the news.

My boss called me into his office.

“Emma, you’re going to have to give the speech this year.”

“Crap, why me?!” I thought.

What is the 3 Week Diet program?

The 3 Week Diet is basically a short term weight loss program that focuses on losing a lot of weight fast, 21 days to be precise. You can watch this video on their official website.

The reason that most people fail when dieting is because it takes so long to see results so Brian (the created of the 3WD) decided to create a system to burn fat as fast as possible.

The cool thing about the 3WD is that it also tells you what to do after 21 days to keep the weight off and improve your overall health.

Also you can do the 3WD system more than once to keep on losing weight.


First off there is the diet program which is made up of 4 different phases.

  • Phase 1 is the hardest. It lasts 7 days and this is where I lost the most weight.
  • Phase 2 only lasts 1 day but it was so effective that I actually lost more than a pound in one day.
  • Phase 3 lasts from day 9-11 and is unlike any other diet I have tried before.
    To be honest the phase 3 diet sounded quite odd and I almost skipped it.

But I promised myself that I would follow the 3 Week Diet to the letter so even though phase 3 sounded weird to me I did it anyway and wow was I surprised when I kept on losing weight.

Seriously when you buy the 3 Week Diet and get to phase 3 don’t skip it even if it’s against everything you thought you knew about losing weight because it really works.

  • Phase 4 lasts from day 12-21 and in this section Brian teaches you a powerful way to continue losing weight for the last 9 days.

In phase 4 Brain teaches you how to calculate you BMR. Your BMR is how many calories you need to consume each day to to maintain your current weight.

You then take the number of calories you need to maintain your weight and then almost cut it in half so that you’re on a big calorie deficit.

I actually thought I knew how to calculate my BMR before I bought the 3 Week Diet but now I realize I was doing it all wrong!

In Phase 4 you pretty much become a fat burning furnace.

There is just no way that if you follow the system you wont lose weight.

love-handles-300x199What I like about the 3 Week Diet plan is that it helps get rid of the stubborn fat around your abs/belly, thighs, love handles, lower back and butt. This is where a lot of us store most of our fat.

There’s a section in the 3WD just for getting rid of fat in these areas.

In another section the 3WD gives you 2 great strategies to open up fat cells, release fat and stop new fat coming in.

These strategies help burn the fat you already have and block new fat from coming in.

One of the strategies is a little controversial in my opinion but after doing some research I found it’s actually safe to do.

You’ll know what I’m talking about if you’ve read through the 3WD.

I like that the diet plan tells you exactly what to eat each day and when to eat your meals to lose the most weight.

It’s all laid out for you step by step.

While you can lose weight with the diet program alone, following the exercise program as well will help you burn fat so much faster.

The workouts last around 20-30 minutes each and they focus on being intense instead of long.

The 3 Week Diet workout program focuses on full body resistance training every other day.

The reason the 3WD focuses on resistance training which comprises of exercises such as push ups and squats etc and not cardio (running on treadmill) is because resistance workouts actually burn twice as many calories as cardio workouts.

This is because with resistance workouts you actually burn through the glycogen in your muscles more quickly which causes your body to start burning fat for energy.

I think some women are a bit scared to do resistance training because they think it’s only for men and they don’t want to look like a body builder but this just wont happen.

After reading through the 3 Week Diet guide I did a bunch of research on this subject and the only way for us women to start building lots of muscle with resistance training is to eat a ton of calories to bulk up or take steroids.

Seeing as we are doing neither the only thing resistance training will help us do is burn fat faster. So don’t be scared of the weights girls!

To complete the workouts you will either need a gym membership or a set of dumbbells & a workout bench.

Luckily my brother who works out a lot had a set of adjustable dumbbells and a bench he let me borrow.

You can get a set up dumbbells very cheap these days especially on eBay.

With an adjustable workout bench you can set it flat or at an angle. This one costs around $90 new. Again probably cheaper on eBay.

In the 3 Week Diet workout program there is an exercise that targets every major muscle group.

The guide tells you exactly how to do the exercises, how many times to do each one and how long to rest in between.

All in all it should take you around 20-30 minutes to complete the workout.

This is a section that I think a lot of people who want to lose weight will probably skip because they think that weight loss is all about the diet and exercise but the mental part of losing weight plays a huge factor.

I am so thankful that I didn’t skip this last part because I don’t think I would have completed the full 21 days if I hadn’t read it.

The hardest part about losing weight is dealing with the cravings for all the tasty foods you know you shouldn’t be eating.

So as you know the first time I did the 3 Week Diet program I lost 17 Pounds in just 21 days.

The second time that I did it I lost 19 Pounds.

And all I did was follow the system. I think if you follow the system you will see results like I did if you give it your best shot.

The 3 Week Diet Pros and Cons

So let’s look at some of the Pros & Cons of the 3 Week Diet program.

Let’s start of with the cons..

The 3 Week Diet Cons..

  • No Videos: So the first thing that springs to mind is that there are no videos for the program. This is fine but it would be nice to have some videos for the exercises in the workouts. But to be honest this really isn’t hat much of a problem.
  • The hunger: If you take the program seriously then this wont be a problem. But if you’re not careful you may find that you get hungry and low on energy and if you’re not taking the program seriously you may want to quite. It’s better to be a bit hungry for a few weeks and lose lots of weight than give in to your urges and quit.
  • Supplements: There are some extra supplements recommended but I didn’t buy them and I still got great results so.
  • Extra equipment needed. At a minimum you will need some weights. The workout bench you can do without because you can use a chair. You can get weights pretty cheaply on eBay or Amazon though so no biggie really.

The 3 Week Diet Pros..

  • You can do it at home! I love that you can do everything in the privacy of your own home. You don’t need to go to a gym or eat hard to find foods. You really don’t need a lot of space for the workouts either.
  • Easy to understand! The system is explained very well in the eBook and at no point did I struggle to understand what I needed to do. You should be able to read through it and be able to get started right away.
  • Easy to get through! Just 21 days that’s all it takes to see results. Sure you’ll be hungry but 3 weeks goes by fast and if you stick to the program you’ll be glad you did it. I’ve tried to follow 90 day weight loss programs in the past and I ended up quitting after about a month because that just too long o be tired and hungry but the 3 Week Diet is short so you can definitely complete it and get results.
  • A full system! I like that it gives you an exact system to follow. So many diet books just tell you what to eat and so many workout programs just tell you how to exercise but the 3 Week Diet puts all of the pieces together so you don’t need to buy anything else.
  • It’s NEW! When I say new I mean that it isn’t just rehashed information. Over the years I’ve bought lots of weight loss programs and many of them just tell you the same thing but the 3 Week Diet has lots of stuff in there that I didn’t know and it’s a system unlike any I’ve tried in the past.
  • Doesn’t take over your life! I like that the program doesn’t take over your life like some other programs. The workouts don’t take too long and the diet is easy to follow. You can carry on with what you do normally and the 3 Week Diet just fits into it. Even if you work full time like me you can still do it.
  • It WORKS! So the only thing that matters is “will it help you lose weight?” And in my opinion it absolutely will and I’m not just saying that because I lost weight but because I just know that if you follow the system I just don’t see how you wouldn’t get results. I know that if you just read through it you’ll sit up at the end and think. “Wow, this is good stuff, I’m going to lose weight with this.” It just makes sense.

So that’s all the pros and cons I can think of. The Pros far out number the cons and the cons really aren’t that bad. I think that’s a testament to just how good the program is.

The 3 Week Diet Program FAQs Answered

So here are some of the frequently asked questions I have seen about the program. I’ll do my best to answer them!

What is the 3 Week Diet? It is basically a 21 day weight loss program designed to help you lose weight fast. It’s split up into 4 short phases that are all different.

Simply put you’ll be dieting, exercising and reducing your calories but in a way you probably wouldn’t have seen before.

Will it work for me? I think that it will work for anyone who follows it. No matter if you have 200 pounds or 1 pound to lose I think you’ll get great results.

I’m always busy, will it work for me? I work full time and always have a bunch of other stuff to do when I get home and it worked for me. If you can spare 20 minutes for exercise then you can do the 3 Week Diet program. And no matter how busy you are you can always spare 20 minutes. Even if it means getting up 20 minutes earlier or going to be 20 minutes later.

How much weight will I lose? Well the website claims you can lose between 12 and 23 pounds. I lost 17 Lbs my first try and then 19 Lbs my second try so their claims are definitely true. If you follow the system I would say you’ll probably lose somewhere between 15-20 Lbs.

Will it work for vegans and vegetarians? Yes.

I’m really unfit, will I be able to do the workouts? I was super unfit when I started and I was able to do them. You just need to go at your own pace but also give it everything you have. And Brian says that you don’t necessarily have to even do the workouts to lose weight although I would definitely recommend that you do exercise.

What equipment will I need? You’ll need some weights although you can actually do some of the exercises without them.

What do I do after the 3 Week Diet program? The problem with a lot of weight loss programs is that they don’t tell you what to do after you’ve finished the program to keep the weight off. The 3 Week Diet has you covered though. It has something called the 3 pound rule.

So you weight yourself every morning and if you ever find that you’re 3 pounds over your target weight you start the 3WD program again from day one until you’re back to your target weight which should be in a few days.

This way you’ll never gain weight again if you follow the system.

What if I don’t reach my weight loss goal? Simple, just restart the 3WD from day one again until you’ve reached your goal. I did the program twice before I reached my goal.

I’m pregnant, can I do it? I’d say no, wait until after you’ve had the baby then it’ll work great.

Will it work for both women and men? Yes, I’d say so. I don’t think it matters if you’re a man or woman. The system will work if you follow it.

I can’t or I don’t want to exercise, can I still use it? Exercise is a part of the program but you would still lose weight without doing the workouts. So yeah, if you don’t want to workout you can still lose weight by skipping them but I’d recommend doing as many of the workouts as possible if you are able as it helps speed up the process.

Should You Buy The 3 Week Diet Program?

Now obviously because it worked so well for me I’d say buy it but honestly you should only buy it if you are willing to commit to it.

    When it comes to what to eat there’s no complicated meals. It’s just healthy eating.

    I did this once before and lost 10 lbs, which I was happy with since I didn’t buy any supplements or exercise, but did notice that most of that weight loss came in the Phase 1. I just started a second time and noticed AGAIN that I’m 3 days into Phase 2 and NOTHING. I knew this portion would be a challenge but frustrated that the weight loss again has come to a screeching halt. I’m been much better about keeping to the 1000 – 1200 calories each day and working the avocado, bacon, eggs, butter, nuts into my diet. Any advice or sample meals would be so helpful!! PLEASE help me out of this rut. I love this diet but hate that I seem to only lose during the first 8 days. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

  4. Hi Karyn, first off it’s great that you’re losing weight!

    I’ll reply later with what I eat in phase 2 because I need to check my log which I don’t have access to right now but what you posted sounds about right.

    What you could do on phase 2 is reduce your calories a bit more..

    Or maybe another you could do is repeat phase one over and over seeing as you’re doing so well on it!

    Maybe do phase 1 then have a couple days break then start over again..

    I am starting the 3 week diet on tomorrow 8/16/2015. I wanted to know a couple things: Fort the approved protein list, fish is allowed but does that include tuna fish? Also on day 1 of phase 1 (which i will be starting tomorrow-8/16/2015) Are we only allowed to eat veggies at our meal times or can we eat them through out the day? It said we can eat as much veggies (from the approved list of course) as we want .

  6. Hey Elissa, yes tuna is fine to eat and it’s super high in protein!

    And yes you can definitely snack on some veggies throughout the day if you need as they’re low in calories.

    Obviously that doesn’t mean you can eat a bucket of vegetables to fill up on.

    When they say eat as many veggies as you like I’d just take that with a grain of salt.

  7. Hi, did you take the nicotine gum and other supplements? I’m on day 3 and not struggling to badly with hunger. The diet says the nicotine gum and coffee helps with the weight loss but I’m extremely sensitive to both nicotine and coffee. I’d prefer not to take them but don’t want this to effect my goals.

  8. Hi Melissa, no I didn’t take the nicotine gum either. I quit smoking years ago so didn’t want to get on the nicotine again. I did drink black coffee though but that’s something I’ve always done. I doubt not drinking coffee or taking nicotine will hinder your results. I think they’re just aids to help. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hello Emma, I really like the diet but I am a bit disappointed with my own results ( I followed the diet faithfully and lost 5 lbs during 1 st week, but gained 3 lbs back during week 2 and lost nothing ever since . So my weight loss is… 2lbs. Any idea what went wrong ? I am hoping for better results during second round.

  12. Hi Marlee, I’ve heard a couple people say the same that they see results on phase 1 but not on phase 2.

    My advice would be to either reduce your calories even more on phase 2 or just skip phase 2 completely and just do 1 and 3 or maybe even just keep repeating phase 1 seeing as that’s working so well for you.

  13. Hi Jessie, you can definitely do your own workouts. The most important thing is the diet and eating the right amount. Exercise is all about burning calories so doing your own workouts is no problem.

  15. Hi Catherine, thanks so much. The 3 week diet program has a section about not gaining weight again called the 3 pound rule.

    You weigh yourself every week and if at any point you have gained between 1-3 pounds then you start the program from day 1 again until you’re back to your goal weight which should only take a few days.

    So yeah, I’ve just been doing that and haven’t gained any weight back.

  17. Hi Rada, the diet plan is pretty simple and I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to get all the right food in India.

    And no you wont gain the weight back afterwards, the program teaches you how to keep the weight off for good!

  18. Hi , just wanted to provide an update to anyone thinking of starting the diet – I started it this week!.

    I am on day 7 of Phase 1 and have lost 10lbs already. I did feel tired for the first two or three days, however by day 4 I have had lots of energy and feel fab. I am doing the resistance exercises, they are fine and easy enough to manage and I can see such a difference around my stomach.

    I am not following the cooking method for the veg as I prefer to bake or dry fry them – but it doesn’t seem to matter, I am also not taking any of the additional supplements.

    I am trying lots of new things to keep the menu interesting like stuffed baked peppers and I am eating lots of fish. I have also incorporated lots of garlic, chilli and fresh herbs since day one. As the booklet says spices and herbs are a key to keeping the food interesting.

    I do miss fruit and dairy but I have had a couple of apples during the week and am looking forward to a yoghurt with fresh fruit tonight on my pre fast meal.

    Good luck to everyone giving this a go – it is the first diet in years that has motivated and inspired me……I will post my final results in 2 weeks!

  19. Hello……I wild like to ask Emma about the 3 week diet. I read your review and saw your pics…..which are amazing. I am in a situation where i need to loose 10kg as soon as possible to avoid a medical condition and surgery. I am 175cm tall, small frame and 75kg (not a huge over weight problem) however most of this is belly fat and playing havoc with hormones etc. I have been advised to loose as much as possible, as soon as I can. You see up till 2 years ago I was always 63-65kg. So I’m aiming for 65kg at this time. Because I don’t have time to waste PLEASE can you tell me that you REALLY do believe if I follow the 3 week diet perfectly…it really will help me move this dangerous belly fat.     And yes, I believe in the 3 Week Diet program 100%.

    It works fast too so because you’ve don’t have a huge amount of weight to lose I believe you’ll do great.

  23. Hey Valerie, I did eat some of the healthier condiments on the 3 Week Diet. They’re not that high in calories if you only use a little for the flavor. Some healthy condiments are mustard, guacamole, pesto, hummus, salsa dip and a bit of ketchup. Just try to use it sparingly!

    I’m Camila from Peru, I hope you’re doing well. I bought the 3 weeks diet program last week, but I have not started yet, I wanted to read the manuals first.

    I’m writting you because I have some doubts, which I hope you can and don’t mind answering ?

    1. Can I eat some fruits? like green apple or one banana per day for example? or papaya? can I eat lentils?

    2. As I don’t live in the USA, buying the Bio Trust products such as low carb protein is really expensive to me, due to the currency, besides the shipping time I’d have to wait for, it’s longer. So what components must have the protein I’ll buy here in Lima, Perú, or please at least tell me what components it shouldn’t have, so it doesn’t damage my weight lost plan or my health.

    3. Can I eat veggies on the 3rd phase

    4. Can I drink coffee with cinnamon, green tea with lemon juice, both sweetened with stevia on my fasts days?

    5. My last question is if I could eat gelatin sweetened with stevia.

  27. Hi Lise, they do recommend a few things like protein powders in the program but they’re definitely NOT necessary to get results!

  28. Congrats for losing weight successfully! May i know did u have a break in between cycle 1 and cycle 2 of the diet? I lost 7.5kg in first cycle and took a day break before cycle2, and gained 1kg+ even tho i am now on my 3rd day of cycle 2 but weigh keep increasing maybe due to water resistance.

  29. Hi Erline, if I remember correctly I took about 5 days off between the round 1 and 2. My advice is don’t weigh yourself every day as weight can fluctuate like that which will mess with your head!

  34. Hi Sophia, there’s actually a section in the pdf that talks about how to keep the weight off. Basically you weigh yourself regularly and if you’ve put on up to 3 pounds you then restart the 3 week diet until you’ve lost the weight which doesn’t take long.

    Since I finished it I’ve been doing this and haven’t gained any weight. Good luck!
